You can make a difference in the lives of youth and give back to your community. Within the first few minutes of walking into our Club, you know you’re in a special place. Filled with the sounds and energy of spirited children and friendly, caring professionals, the Club is a fun and hopeful environment. Whether you help with homework, coach a game, or teach an art project, you’ll have the opportunity to build healthy relationships with young people eager for adult guidance, and have a positive impact on their lives. In turn, you will find that spending time with these young people has a positive impact on you as well.
Ways to Volunteer
- Spend Time with Club Members
We are always in need of volunteers to spend time with the Club members- helping with homework, entertaining kids who don't have a current project, playing board games, reading, and other recreational activities. We have 300 to 600 Club members in age groups of various sizes and run many different programs- click here to learn more!
- Mentoring
If you would prefer to work one-on-one with a Club member you may be interested in our mentoring program. We match mentors to Club members in middle school who are in need of a role model. Mentors are asked to commit to the school year and meet with mentees on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Club from 3:30 PM until 4:30 PM. Please contact Darilyn at druotolo@sandhillsbgc.org for more information.
- Special Events
The Club has many special events throughout the year and are always looking for volunteers. Depending on the event some of the ways you can help are by helping set up or tear down/clean up, help with registration, help with serving food, etc.
- Group Projects
If you have a group that would like to volunteer for service hours we can work with you on accommodating your group size, time frame, and ideas.
- Coordinate a Supplies Drive or Fundraiser
We are always in need of school supplies, hygiene items, craft supplies, and new games and books. You are welcome to coordinate a supplies drive and drop off your items at 160 Memorial Park Court, Southern Pines, NC 28387. You can also coordinate a fundraiser in several ways- direct asking, Facebook birthday fundraisers, etc.
Now that you know more about volunteering, here's what's next!
Adult Volunteers (18+): We ask that all of our potential volunteers aged 18+ fill out an application and pay a $10 fee. This fee covers the cost of a background check and allows us to ensure that all funds raised go directly to supporting our Club Members. You will be provided information to pay the fee once your application is submitted.
You may also pay the fee in person with debit/credit or cash.
Volunteers Under 18: If you are interested in volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills, please fill out the student application. There is no fee for student volunteers.
Interns: College students interested in internships should contact Darilyn Ruotolo at druotolo@sandhillsbgc.org or (910)-692-0777 to discuss their program requirements and verify that we meet the criteria required for your school.
If you have any other questions about volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills, please contact Darilyn Ruotolo at druotolo@sandhillsbgc.org or (910)-692-0777.
