The Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills was founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1997, and the doors officially opened in 1999. Since then, the Club has served over 6,000 children and Teens and is the leading youth Advocacy non-Profit organization in Moore County.
Timeline of the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills
1997 - Incorporated December 17, 1997 with seed grants from Pinehurst Resort, Boys & Girls Club of America, and Pepsi.
1999 – February 1, The Club opened its doors to members at the Southern Pines Public Housing Community Center. Robert Dedman Sr. and Pinehurst resort contributed $500,000 from the 1999 US Open.
2002 - A partnership was formed with the Town of Southern Pines, allowing the Club to move into the Old Fire Station.
2008 - A second location was opened at the Aberdeen Elementary School to serve more members in our community, especially those attending Aberdeen area schools.
2014 - The 5,000 Square Foot Baxter Teen Center was added to the existing Southern Pines location, giving Teen members a dedicated space.
2017 – Trinity Performing Arts Center opened at Trinity AME Zion church.
2021- The Trinity Unit relocated to the campus of Moore Montessori School in Southern Pines.
2022 - The Logan-Blake Unit welcomed Club kids for the first time. This space was renovated to replace our location at the old Aberdeen Elementary School.
